A senior Punjab police officer, who was posted here, was arrested in Keshav Puram area of North West Delhi for allegedly opening fire at a youth following an argument.

A senior Punjab police officer, who was posted here, was arrested in Keshav Puram area of North West Delhi for allegedly opening fire at a youth following an argument. According to the information, the incident took place on Friday night in Rampura colony in Keshav Puram area. The youth has suffered two gun wounds and is battling for his life. The accused officer, Narender, is an assistant commandant of 5th IRBn of the Punjab police and was deployed at Punjab Bhavan in the national capital. “We have registered an FIR of attempt to murder under Section 307 (attempt to murder) against him with the local police station. His service pistol used in the commission of crime has also been seized,” said a police official. The official added the youth who suffered bullet injuries was identified as Arun. He was hospitalised in a nearby hospital. Meanwhile, a police source said Narender was passing through Ram Pura Colony when he summoned three youth. “The youths were walking with their pet dog. According to them, Narender was in an inebriated condition and started asking for directions. The youth told him about the asked address but he scolded them, saying they were lying. The argument heated up and in a fit of rage, Narender took out his service pistol and opened fire,” said the police source. The source added that a bullet hit Arun on his chest and he collapsed. “Narender was overpowered by a passerby and a PCR call was made to inform the police about the incident,” said the police official.
