Police busts trafficking racket, 3 girls rescued
The Delhi police’s crime branch on Saturday claimed to have busted a gang of human traffickers with the arrest of two persons. Three minor girls have been rescued as well, the police said.
Joint commissioner of police (crime branch) Ravindra Yadav said that the three arrested accused have been identified as Prabhakar Singh, alias Prakash, alias Tinkoo, 24, and Moha-mmed Israfil, 28, both natives of Jharkhand. They were operating from Shakurpur locality in East Delhi and were involved in the trafficking of minor girls from Jharkhand, the police added.
The JCP said that on Thursday a complaint was received from the Child Welfare Committee in Jharkhand and NGO Shakti Vahini to rescue a 15-year-old girl from Shakurpur. Acting on the complaint, a team of police officials was constituted and information about suspect Prakash was gathered. “On a tip-off, both the accused were arrested from a placement agency in the name of Dipika Placement Service Centre being run by them,” said the cops, adding, “On interrogation, both the accused disclosed their involvement in the kidnapping of the victim girl, along with others.”
The police said that Prabhkar would bring the girls from various places in Jharkhand and hand them over to Israfil for Rs 15,000 per girl.
They have been involved in this illegal business since the last five years, added the JCP.
The police added that Prabhakar, who is a resident of Ranchi and used to visit the rural areas of Gumla district in Jharkhand, would always be in search of victims. “He would lure minor girls on the pretext of employment or for site seeing in Delhi, bring them to the city and hand them over to Israfil who would further employ each girl as domestic helps after charging Rs 35,000 from the employer,” said the cops, adding, “Israfil would also collect monthly payment from the employer and use the same for their own use. Nothing was paid to the girl or their parents. In the month of September, Prabhakar had lured three minor girls.”
