A minor girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour in a park in north-east Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Saturday evening.
According to the police, after the incident, the girl went to her house and narrated her ordeal to her mother. But fearing social stigma, her family members decided to not inform the police about the incident.
The police said that it was only after a woman in their neighbourhood went to the police that the incident came to light. Her medical examination was conducted after which a case of rape was filed in the local police station.
The police said that the accused, identified as Satish, was arrested from his house as well. It was learnt that on Saturday evening, while she was on her way to the market with her cousins, Satish stopped her and lured to a park nearby where he raped her. After that he beat her up and threatened her with dire consequences in case she told her family anything. The accused left the victim outside her house after the crime, the police said.
“We are questioning Satish in connection with the matter and are trying to ascertain whether he is involved in other such incidents as well,” the senior police officer said, adding, “The victim is being counselled with the help of an NGO.”
Further investigation is on. Attacking the police, Delhi chief minister, on October 19, had said that the law and order in Delhi had deteriorated significantly and women did not feel secure in the city.
“There is no fear among those who commit such crimes. The sense of security is over,” he had said.Mr Kejriwal was targeting the Centre after the rapes of a two-and-half-year-old child and another five-year-old girl in the city, and had even reiterated his demand for the handing over of the Delhi police at least for one year to the Delhi government.
