A 45-year-old man committed suicide by setting himself on fire on Wednesday evening in East Delhi’s Anand Vihar area. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Vimal Sethia. His wife and son have not been living with him for the past some months, which the cops suspect to be the reason behind the extreme step. No suicide note has been found from his possession.
The police said that they received a call at about 6 pm on Wednesday from Vimal’s neighbour that smoke is coming out of his house in Anand Vihar A-block. “When we reached there, we found him lying in the kitchen,” said a senior police officer, adding, “he had suffered 100 per cent burns.”
The police added that he poured some inflammable substance on him before setting himself on fire. “We have not been able to find out what was the substance which he poured on him. It was not kerosene,” said the senior police officer, adding, “a team of forensic experts visited the spot and there report is awaited.”
