A bitter dispute between two brothers over property turned ugly on Friday eve-ning with one of them killing two persons, including his father, with a cleaver in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri area. Another person suffered critical stab wounds, said the police.

The police added that the deceased have been identified as Mohammad Yusuf and his daughter-in-law Shamina, 35. Shamina’s 17-year-old son Janbaz was injured in the incident and is battling for life in a local government hospital.

The accused, arrested by the police, is the youngest son of Yusuf. The weapon used by him during the commission of the crime has also been seized.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Shamshad, alias Munna, had an argument with his elder brother Zulfiqar over money. “During the argument the accused whipped out the cleaver,” said a senior police officer, adding, “While Zulfiqar fled the crime spot as soon as he saw his brother launching an attack, their father and Zulfiqar’s wife Shamina could not escape.”

The police have learnt that the two brothers have been fighting over a share in the money the family got after selling their ancestral property at their native place in Uttar Pradesh’s Loni near Ghaziabad. The plot was sold for '7 lakh but the money was in Zulfiqar’s custody. While Munna wanted his share of money, neither Zulfiqar nor their father, Yusuf, was paying any heed to his constant demands. The senior police officer said that the crime came to notice at about 10 pm and Munna was arrested from home. “Zulfiqar has a criminal background and his name is listed in the record of habitual criminals of the Nand Nagri police station,” said the senior police officer, adding, “On Friday night, Munna was having an argument with Zulfiqar and Yusuf when he took out a knife to attack them.”

The police added that when Shamina tried to intervene, Munna attacked her. Seeing Shamina being attacked, her son and father-in-law tried to overpower Munna, but Munna stabbed them as well.

“All three of them were rushed to G.T.B. Hospital where both Shamina and Yusuf succumbed to their injuries,” the police said.
