‘Land allotted for BJP office not DDA property’
The land allotted to the Bharatiya Janta Party for constructing its office does not belong to the DDA, the city’s land owning agency clarified on Wednesday.
The clarification came in reply to the accusation made by Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia against lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung that he had allotted land earmarked for a school to the BJP to construct an office in the heart of the capital.
Responding to the allegation, the DDA, which is headed by the lieutenant-governor, said: “Land of the BJP office site does not belong to the DDA and has not been allotted by the DDA.”
“The site belonged to land and development office (L&DO),” the authority said.“The L&DO had already allotted the land to the BJP on November 27, 2014 and the site was handed over by L&DO to them on December 5, 2014. The land falls under the local jurisdiction of North Delhi Municipal Corporation,” it added.
It also said the DDA meeting had processed only the change of land use on the request of the L&DO for inviting public objections/suggestions in accordance with the DDA Act. “This agenda item was circulated well in advance to all the elected members of the authority, which included the AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) elected members,” it said.
Urging Mr Jung to revoke the land allotted to the BJP to construct its Delhi unit office in the heart of the capital, Mr Sisodia had said on Tuesday, “I am really disappointed to know that you have allotted a land belonging to a school to the BJP for constructing its office.”
The statement was made in reference to the 809 square metres of land allotted to the BJP on Delhi’s Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.
