A Delhi police head constable was killed by a speeding truck in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area on Monday afternoon.

A Delhi police head constable was killed by a speeding truck in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh area on Monday afternoon. According to the police, the deceased, identified as Brij Lal, was going to security lines in Vinay Marg on his motorcycle when the mishap took place. He was posted at Shahdara traffic circle.

The police said that at about 1. 30 pm on Monday, Lal left for Vinay Marg security lines office to get his identity card for Republic Day duty. “When he crossed Lohe Wala Pul, a speeding truck rammed his motorcycle from behind,” said a senior police officer, adding, “his body was crushed under the rear wheel of the truck.” Immediately, a PCR call was made and he was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.

His body was sent for autopsy, added the police officer.

The police said that a case of rash and negligent driving was registered at the local police station and the driver of the truck, identified as Pramod, was arrested in connection with the incident.

The senior police officer said that Brij Lal, who joined the force in 1989 as a constable, was a native of Alwar in Rajasthan and stayed with his family in Sagarpur area in the capital. His wife, two sons, and a daughter survive him.

His eldest son Banwari is a constable in Delhi police while younger son Jitender is a student.

The police said that they have seized the truck and have summoned the owner as well for further investigations.
