An empty glass bottle, a currency note of '500 denomination, and some garbage dumped in a corner of a house are among some of the photographs which have been uploaded on the AAP government’s “Swatch Delhi App,” which was recently launched by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Of about 2,200 uploads, there are many photographs showing garbage in the neighbouring states.

This is perhaps the first occasion when the city government and the BJP-led municipal corporations came together on a single platform to clean the city. On the lines of the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan, Mr Kejriwal had announced his government would launch a special cleanliness drive from November 22 till November 30.

A senior officer said the users could also be able give a missed call on 7666400400 following which they would receive an SMS containing the link to download the application, which can also be downloaded from the Google playstore.

The government has already set up a control room to monitor the photographs so that the information related to their location could be immediately passed on to the agencies concerned for quick action. While the municipal bodies would be clearing the garbage, the PWD has been tasked with the responsibility of cleaning concrete waste.

What has surprised the officers monitoring the application is the fact that many people have been uploading photographs of irrelevant things. A senior officer said one person had sent a photograph of an empty glass bottle. “Another had sent us a picture of a currency note of '500 denomination. Another photograph is of a drawing room. There are many pictures from the neighbouring states.”

The officer said that a mechanism was being devised to ensure that only one picture of a particular place was processed.
