Girl, 16, raped; public beats up 2 accused
A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped by two of her neighbours in outer Delhi’s Aman Vihar area on Monday. The two accused, identified as Mohammed Shobat (24) and Mohammed Naushad (19), have been arrested. Angry locals beat up the two accused and shaved their heads before handing them over to the police.
The incident came to the fore when the victim’s family members approached the cops with the complaint that their daughter, who had gone for a morning walk on Monday, did not return.
“After searching for her for hours, the parents and other residents at about 6 pm broke open the door of one of the accused on suspicion and found the victim tied to the bed,” said the police, adding, “She was rescued and the two accused were beaten up and their heads shaven off by the angry locals.”
The complainant later told the cops that when she had left for her morning walk, the two accused had pulled her into Shobat’s room. “They then raped her in turns and tied her to the bed.”
The accused in their interrogation revealed that after raping the minor girl, they tied her up in the room and even joined the crowd searching for her during the day. “They behaved as they were with the crowd to trace the culprits,” said the police, adding, “It was only at about 6 pm when one of the residents saw lights and fan inside Shobat’s house, which raised suspicion.”
“On this, the crowd broke open the door and found the girl lying inside in a semi-conscious condition.”
The police added that she was rushed to the hospital where her medical examination was done and a case of rape was filed at the Aman Vihar police station.
The victim, who is a resident of Aman Vihar, is now being counselled with the help of an NGO, added the cops. She is the Class 11 student of a nearby government school.
