The Delhi police’s crime branch on Thursday claimed to have busted a fake currency syndicate with the arrest of one Bihar-based mastermind, Haridya Thakur (29), and his associate Nagender Ram, alias Chet Ram (34). Both of them were operating in Delhi and fake currency amounting to over Rs 1 lakh has been recovered from their possession. Joint commissioner of police, crime branch, Ravindra Yadav said that the currency was being trafficked to India from Nepal.

The police said that on a tip-off that Haridya Thakur would come near Nigambodh Ghat at Kashmere Gate to supply fake notes, a trap was laid and one police officer, posing as a decoy customer, struck a deal with him. “As soon as the transaction was completed, the traffickers were overpowered by the police team,” Mr Yadav said.
