Delhi HC refuses interim stay on car measure

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to give interim stay on AAP government’s plan to impose the odd-even number plate formula for plying of private vehicles from January 1.

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday refused to give interim stay on AAP government’s plan to impose the odd-even number plate formula for plying of private vehicles from January 1. The court said that it would hear further arguments on the matter on January 6.

A bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath on Wednesday declined the request made by one of the five petitioners that the court should at least grant stay on the implementation of the government’s idea.

The bench said that it did not know whether the Delhi government would come up with such scheme. It said that the relief could be granted only after implementation of the scheme.

Piyush Kalra, who was appearing for the Delhi government as an additional standing counsel (ASC), told the court that as yet nothing was concrete on the proposed plan.

Nipun Malhotra, a specially-challenged person and one of the petitioners, had urged the court to allow disabled commuters to use their own vehicle as they could not travel in public transport.
