The Delhi police arrested the man who shot dead a 25-year-old Congo national in Dwarka area of southwest Delhi from the Kolkata airport when he was trying to flee abroad.

Confirming the arrest. additional commissioner of the police (southwest) Anil Kumar Ojha said the accused Praveen Rana is reportedly a cable operator. However, Mr Ojha refused to divulge more information saying it will hamper the investigation. A police source said the deceased Congo national Yenn, lived in the neighbourhood of the accused and had beaten him up once following an argument. “The accused wanted to take revenge and decided to eliminate him. Praveen procured a weapon to execute the plan and kept an eye on the victim. On August 30, Praveen saw Yenn travelling in a car with his girlfriend in Dwarka Sector 5 area. Rana shot him three times and stabbed him many times before fleeing from the spot,” said the police source. Yenn’s girlfriend called her brother and the police to report the incident. Yenn was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared brought dead. The police had registered an FIR of murder in this respect at the Dwarka South police station. During investigation, the police officials got a CCTV footage in which Rana was seen. When the police tried to contact Rana, he gave them a slip. Meanwhile, the police came to know that Praveen Rana was trying to flee abroad to avoid his arrest. “We then issued a lookout notice against Praveen Rana following which he was held at the Kolkata airport when he was about to board a plane. We are interrogating him as we still have to recover the weapon used in the commission of crime,” said the police source.
