Bhojpuri actor and singer Manoj Tiwari joined the Delhi BJP on Thursday giving the party a shot in the arm ahead of the coming Assembly polls. Both the Congress and the BJP are trying to woo 30 lakh Purvanchali voters in the capital. With Tiwari’s induction the BJP can feel having an edge over rivals as he is one of the most popular stars in the Purvanchali community. “It is my honour to be inducted in the party. The BJP is set to unseat the insensitive and corruption-ridden Congress government. I feel honoured to work for the party under the leadership of Mr Narendra Modi,” Mr Tiwari told reporters here. Though the party may decide to field him in the elections from any constituency with sizeable share of Purvanchali voters, he will also be the star campaigner for the party in Uttam Nagar, Trilokpuri, Burari, Kanjhawla, Kirari, Laxmi Nagar areas and parts of east, northeast and outer Delhi districts. “Mr Tiwari has a huge following and will prove to be a great asset to the BJP. All those who want to get rid of the Congress’ misrule are joining BJP as it is the only viable alternative in Delhi,” Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel told reporters here. This is not the first time that Manoj Tiwari is trying his luck in politics. Earlier in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, Tiwari had contested from Gorakhpur in UP on a Samajwadi Party ticket. However, the Bhojpuri singer-actor had faced a crushing defeat against BJP’s strongman Yogi Adityanath.
