One person received a bullet injury after about two dozen hooligans gathered outside a house in South Delhi’s Safdarjung area and opened fire following an argument over a pet dog on Sunday night.

The police, after recovering seven empty cartridges from the spot, arrested two persons so far in connection with the incident.

According to a senior police officer, the incident took place in Humayunpur village of Safdarjung locality. “A local resident, identified as Sahil, 22, had gone out to give his dog a stroll at about 8 pm on Sunday night,” the officer said, adding, “miffed with daily defecation by Sahil’s dog on the road, his neighbour Rohit argued with him and asked him to stop this practice. On this, a heated argument took place and before it could turn violent, other neighbours intervened and the matter was sorted,” said the cops.

“However, after about two hours, Rohit brought about two dozen men along with him and gathered outside Sahil’s house.” The police added that some of them opened fire at Sahil’s residence. “Though Sahil’s family members escaped unhurt in the firing as no one came out of the house, a neighbour, identified as Rajesh Kumar, who came out hearing the commotion, received a bullet injury in his abdomen,” said the police, adding, “a PCR call was made and the injured was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is recuperating and is out of danger.” Investigating officials said that as many as 20 shots were fired in the incident. “We have got hold of a CCTV footage showing hooligans gathering outside Sahil’s house and opening fire,” said the investigating official, adding, “we have identified seven persons out of whom two have been arrested.” A case of attempt to murder has been registered.
