Mumbai: Two days after the Lok Sabha election results, former deputy chief minister and senior NCP leader Ajit Pawar has said that he and his party worked very hard in the Maval Lok Sabha constituency, where his son Parth Pawar lost. Therefore, the result in Maval was very shocking for the party, he said.

Parth Pawar, son of Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar’s grand-nephew, was contesting from the Maval seat.

Parth was defeated by Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Barne by a margin of 2,15,913 votes.   Parth is a member of the third generation of Sharad Pawar’s family.

His candidature had been declared after Ajit Pawar’s group put considerable pressure on Sharad Pawar saying that there was demand from party workers that Parth be fielded in the general elections.

Ajit Pawar said that people had not only given their mandate to the BJP in Maval but also across the country. However, they were not going to be scared by this defeat but would try for development of the constituency in future, too. Ajit Pawar said that the party had accepted the people’s mandate.

“I am congratulating all the elected contestants. The people have decided to extend support again to Narendra Modi and the BJP,” the senior NCP leader said.

Parth was fielded from the Maval seat as his father Ajit Pawar had carried out several development works in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

Mr Pawar had made Maval a prestigious seat as he campaigned aggressively for his son during the polls.

His son’s defeat in Maval has embarrassed the Pawar family, which has dominated state politics for nearly five decades.
