The BMC’s election department has accepted that the civic administration work does get affected due to election duties.

Mumbai: Activists in the city have complained that the the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is failing to give immediate replies to their queries or redress their complaints related to civic issues in time due to their election duties.

RTI activist Anil Galgali said, “I have approached a few civic departments in regards to my queries and I was told the work will be done only after elections. The election duties are important but that should not come at the cost their original duties”.

“Additionally, after the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, the employees will be deployed for the state Assembly election duties. The Election Commission and government should come up with a strategy not to affect the officers’ original duties,” he added.

The BMC has released its 11,000 staff to the collector’s office for Lok Sabha election duty. A total 60,000 government staff is tasked with ongoing Lok Sabha election duties.

The BMC’s election department has accepted that the civic administration work does get affected due to election duties. The work like de-silting of storm water drains, bridge inspection, roads etc. will be affected.
