Mumbai: The cyber cell of Mumbai police has arrested Ajaz Khan the controversial former reality show participant for posting a controversial video on TikTok. According to the police, the video threatens to unleash violence against a certain section of society.

The video shared by Khan was tagged as ‘communal’ on social media following which the police arrested him. In the video, Khan was seen not only mocking the Mumbai police but also urged all Muslims to wake up and act against mob lynching. The video was highly ‘instigating’.

According to police, he has been arrested under section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) of Indian Penal Code and section 67 (publishing of information which is obscene material in electronic form) of Information Technology Act.

Interestingly, Khan also shared a video on the same issue in the backdrop of the registration of a criminal case against three TikTok influencers for posting 'hate-mongering' video on the app and the police is yet to arrest the trio. The three persons Hasnain Khan (21), Mudassir Shaikh (23) and Shadan Farooqui (23) had applied for anticipatory bail in the sessions court but the court rejected their applications. They had shared a video on Tabrez Ansari’s mob lynching. The video purportedly shows the youths saying, “You may have killed that innocent Tabrez Ansari, but tomorrow if his son takes revenge, do not say that all Muslims are terrorists.”

The video has gone viral on social media, a police official said. After receiving a complaint, the cyber wing of the Crime Branch registered a case against Khan.

In the past too Khan was surrounded with controversies. In October 2018, Anti-Narcotics Cell of Mumbai Police had arrested him from a hotel for alleged drug possession. In 2016, he had been arrested for allegedly sending obscene pictures and lewd messages to a beautician. Khan, who was part of the seventh season of the TV reality show Bigg Boss, has also appeared in films and comedy serials.
