What you eat in the morning dictates how you flow through the day. And, a “king sized breakfast” might not always be a good idea. Most people go bananas for bananas for breakfast, because it’s filling and comes with several health benefits. Here are a few benefits of eating bananas:

  • Rich in fibre
  • Packed with potassium
  • Might give 10 per cent of daily vitamin C intake
  • Contain natural sugars like fructose, glucose and sucrose
  • Good for digestion
  • Improve bone health with their calcium content

But, bananas might not be a good idea for breakfast. This is because they contain high levels of sugar, even if they’re natural. They can leave you tired and hungry, because when combined with their moderately acidic nature, they spell lethargy. You’re also likely to overeat because the sugar boost might result in cravings.

You can, however, reap the benefits of bananas by adding other macronutrients. This helps in giving you just enough energy to flow through the day, while normalising your blood sugar levels. The Times of India suggests having bananas with other elements like boiled eggs or peanut butter. Here are two delicious breakfast recipes that use bananas:

Banana coffee smoothie

This one is absolutely scrumptious and all you need are some simple ingredients. Blend oats and milk together in a blending jar. Now, add banana slices, some coffee powder, and honey and blend again. Ideally, the consistency should be thick, but you can add the ingredients depending on your taste.

Banana halwa

If you’re craving for something tasty and healthy, look no more. A delicious bowl of halwa, one of the most popular Indian desserts, is all you need. The only thing is that it’s made from bananas. Take a cup of oats and sauté them in 2-3 tablespoons of ghee for about 6 minutes on a medium flame. Next, add a cup of milk and half a cup of water, and give this mixture a nice stir. Lastly, add some chopped dates, and half a cup of sugar. Don’t forget to keep stirring. This will prevent lump formations. Remove from the flame after 3 minutes, add 2 mashed bananas and mix it all up. Serve with chopped dried fruits.
