Mumbai: Her hopes and dreams were dashed, murdered Rohit Tiwari’s wife Apoorva has confessed to the police after taking the extreme step.

Practising apex court advocate Apoorva, who has been arrested a week after she killed her husband and son of former Uttar Pradesh chief minister N D Tiwari, has told the police that her marriage was "a turbulent and unhappy”.

"She confessed that she has murdered her husband,” senior police officer Rajiv Ranjan has said.

The police said Apoorva strangled her husband and choked him with a pillow after a huge fight. "He had been drinking, and was in no position to resist," the police officer added.

Apoorva was questioned for three days before her arrest. She was later sent to two-day police custody on Wednesday.

The body of the 40-year-old was found under mysterious circumstances on April 16 and it was earlier believed he had died of a cardiac arrest.

Advocate Apoorva Shukla, who is from Indore, met Rohit through a matrimonial website in March 2017.

A year later, in April, the couple got engaged in Delhi and married within a month.
Day by day, their married life was getting worse. “The situation turned so bad that Shekhar and Apoorva were living separately in the same house'' a police officer
told news agency IANS.

"They also discussed mutual divorce several times and later decided to end their marriage in June,” Rohit's mother Ujjwala Sharma said.

Sharma said Apoorva had an affair before her marriage and that her family was very money-minded. “They had an eye on our Defence Colony property,” Sharma was quoted by NDTV.

Sharma said she would disclose everything after the condolence meet. She said Apoorva was cut-up with the fact that her other son Siddharth wanted to give a a share of his property to an old aide’s son.

On April 15, Rohit, his mother Ujjwala and a relative drove back from Kathgodam in Uttarakhand, where they had gone to vote.

The next day, a domestic help went in around 4 pm and saw Rohit in an unconscious state and his nose bleeding. He was taken to a hospital where he was declared him brought dead.
