New Delhi: The newly-appointed principal secretary to the Prime Minister, P.K. Mishra, will look into policy issues about the ministries of personnel, law, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and other related matters.

He will also handle issues related to the Cabinet Secretariat, the listing of items for Union Cabinet meetings, the anti-corruption unit, PMO establishment and all important policy issues and matters, according to the order issued last week on allocation of work of top PMO officials, also including national security adviser Ajit Doval and PM’s principal adviser P.K. Sinha.

Mr Doval will continue to look after issues related to national security, except appointments. Mr Doval will also su-pervise matters related to the external aff-airs, overseas Indian affairs, defence, space and atomic energy ministries as well as the operations of the Research and Anal-ysis Wing (RAW).

He will also be in charge of all policies and matters relating to the National Security Council secretariat and the National Authority for Chemical Weapons. The NSA has also been given the responsibility of holding talks with the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) separatists.

On the other hand, Mr Sinha will oversee policy issues and matters related to all ministries/departments and agencies except those specifically allocated to the NSA or the principal secretary, the order issued by the PMO on September 13 said.

Mr P.K. Sinha is a former Cabinet Secretary and was last month appointed officer on special duty in the PMO before being made Mr Modi’s principal adviser.

Mr Mishra was the PM’s additional principal secretary and was last week elevated as principal secretary after Mr Nripendra Misra stepped down. Mr Mishra and Mr Doval hold the rank of a Cabinet minister.
