Islamabad: Pakistan has started issuing passports to the transgenders with a separate sex identity.

Farzana Jan, president of the Alliance, has become the first transgender person in the Khyber Pakhtunkhaw province to be issued a passport encompassing the third gender category. The community alliance in its official social account said, “Another milestone achieved. After a long struggle, we are able to make another change. Now the Pakistan government is issuing passports to Transgender community as separate category….Thank you government of Pakistan, ministry of interior and the passport authorities for listening to us.”

Earlier, the Pakistani passport had a gender category with either ‘male’ or ‘female’ options.

However, with this development, another option ‘X’ has been added for the transgenders.
