Microsoft released its new browser Edge built into Windows 10, in May.

In May, Microsoft released its new browser Edge built into Windows 10. The company claimed it to be more battery-efficient, faster and all-round better than its competitors Google’s Chrome and Mozilla’s Firefox. However, till date the browser has a global market share of only 5 per cent.

In order to promote the browser usage the company will now start paying people for using it. Microsoft will pay the reward through the Microsoft Reward program, a rebranding of Bing Rewards which gave reward points to people for using Bling as their search engine. The earned points will then be traded in for vouchers or credits for places such as Starbucks, Amazon, Skype and ad-free Outlook.com.

However, the program is currently available in US and users are required to set Bling as their default search engine.

Microsoft’s Internet explorer once ruled as the only search engine browser in the market, but over the decades, browsers like Chrome and FireFox tipped it away. Now, whether Microsoft’s Edge will have a similar fortune as Internet Explorer had or be able to rise against its rival browsers is yet to be seen.
