The dual camera sensor is similar to Huawei’s monochrome setup and could find its place on the upcoming Galaxy Note 8.

With this sensor, it seems that Samsung is not joining the race for higher zooming capabilities, like most of its competitors in the market and has instead focussed on what actually matters to the user – a bright and clear photograph. (Photo: Android Authority)

The dual camera setup is becoming a norm in the smartphone market with major manufacturers joining the bandwagon. However, one of the largest names in the world of smartphones was surprisingly not a part of this trend – Samsung, especially with their Galaxy S8 flagship opting for a single camera setup. Now, it seems that that is about to change as Samsung has announced a range of its next generation camera sensors at the 2017 MWC Shanghai, with one of them being a dual-camera sensor.

The Korean technology giant unveiled four camera sensors under its ISOCELL series of image sensors – ISOCELL Bright, ISOCELL Fast, ISOCELL Slim and ISOCELL Dual. The fourth one in the list, the ISOCELL DUAL, is the dual camera setup. It promises superior image quality in low light conditions, a trick that Samsung is brilliantly exceeding at since the last few releases of its flagship Galaxy S series. The setup consists of two 13MP sensors with individual autofocus. Both of them have an aperture of f/2.0 and the pixels measure 1.12µm. One camera is an RGB sensor and the other one is a monochrome sensor, a setup very similar to Huawei’s dual camera sensors.

With this sensor, it seems that Samsung is not joining the race for higher zooming capabilities, like most of its competitors in the market and has instead focussed on what actually matters to the user – a bright and clear photograph. And, with the unveiling of this art of the year, it seems that we could be expecting this setup to debut on Samsung’s upcoming flagship smartphone – the Galaxy Note 8.
