Samsung is busy round the year every single year refreshing their huge line-up of Galaxy smartphones around the world. They start the year with a revamped galaxy “S” series model followed by a revamped galaxy “Note” model, filling the gap months in between refreshing its midrange smartphones. Last year’s disastrous Note 7 incident made people, as well as tech journalists, assume that Samsung will pull the plug on its Note series. But Samsung confirmed the presence of the “Note” series in its R&D departments and we also have a leak that claims to hint the upcoming Galaxy Note 8.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has speculated the Galaxy Note 8 have features that differ from those of the Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus significantly. The most important upgrade to the Note series and in fact to Samsung’s smartphone line-up will be the inclusion of a  dual-lens camera system; something that has been done by rival manufacturers some months back. The Galaxy Note 8’s dual-camera setup, says Kuo, will likely “be much better than that of the iPhone 7 Plus.

The Galaxy Note 8 is also speculated to sport a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD+ display (2960×1440, 529ppi). It will possibly sport a bigger and better version of the S8+’s Infinity Display as last year’s Note 7 had a dual edge screen. Rumours have also claimed that Samsung is developing the next version of its AMOLED display with the fingerprint sensor embedded in it. If that comes true, then you will be placing your finger on the front glass to unlock the phone.

As you must have seen from the photos that surfaced on Slashleaks and Weibo, there’s no fingerprint sensor on the back and a dual-lens camera unit in is peeping from the rear. Now some say that this might be a prototype unit of the Galaxy S8+ that was testing the dual-camera setup on the flagship.

As per speculations, we can expect the latest Exynos processor with a slightly higher clock speed, possibly 6GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage and an improved version of the much-loved S Pen.

We might have to wait and see if these speculations turn out to be true. Until then, the Galaxy S8 twins will be “the phone” to buy in 2017.
