The Black Shark smartphone is expected to rival the Razer Phone and flaunt the most powerful specifications.

Will Xiaomi utilise a stock form of Android OS instead of their resource-hogging MIUI to extract maximum performance?
Will Xiaomi utilise a stock form of Android OS instead of their resource-hogging MIUI to extract maximum performance?

A few months ago, we had heard about Xiaomi prepping a gaming-focused smartphone under the banner of Black Shark — a Xiaomi backed firm focusing on mobile gaming devices. Now, after revealing the Mi MIX 2S, the company has sent out invites in China for Black Shark device’s phone. The smartphone will be unveiled on April 13.

The Black Shark branded-device is expected to sport Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 845 chipset, which also powers the Mi MIX 2S. The invite for the launch event mentions Qualcomm’s partnership with Black Shark for the product, thus indicating that the device will be using their flagship-grade SoC. However, since it will be a gaming smartphone, it is expected that Black Shark will opt for a 120Hz display to enhance the gaming experience, just like the Razer Phone. But, since it’s from Xiaomi’s stables, expect Xiaomi to stuff in a full HD display to keep it affordable for the masses.

Recently, leaks on various benchmark platforms have suggested a Xiaomi device utilising a Snapdragon 845 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. It was running on Android 8.0 Oreo. Since these are still unconfirmed leaks, it isn’t confirmed as to how this Xiaomi gaming smartphone will shape up — Will Xiaomi put a premium on this one to extend its reaches in European and American markets? Will Xiaomi utilise a stock form of Android OS instead of their resource-hogging MIUI to extract maximum performance? Will it carry a design similar to narrow-bezel Mi MIX 2? Will Xiaomi introduce the Black Shark brand in India with this phone?  We’ll have to wait till April 13 to know.
