Uncharted: The Lost Legacy narrows the gap between a standalone expansion and a brand new game. What was earlier meant to be DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End was later developed into a full game that is being sold at a lower price point.

It is more in line the original trilogy, lasting somewhere between six to ten hours depending upon how much time you spend looking for treasure and exploring the Western Ghats. It’s not an open world game, just contains one giant area with multiple objectives, optional puzzles and even a side quest that gives you a handy accessory.

It’s the first game not starring Nathan Drake, but protagonist Chloe Frazer handles the role comfortably. Chloe is joined by one of the antagonists from Uncharted 4 — Nadine Ross, who has her own reasons for being there. The game takes place in India and you go on a journey to find the Tusk of Ganesh.

Those expecting any sort of jump over Uncharted 4 will be disappointed as the game looks and plays exactly the same. The gameplay of The Lost Legacy is still a delight and you will find plenty to love in its encounter design as well as the set-pieces. The biggest new addition is a lock-picking mini-game which lets you open weapon crates.

It’s not as grand a game though. So do not expect a globe-trotting adventure and while the story is memorable, it isn’t as engaging as Drake’s adventures. What you will get is a distilled version of Uncharted 4 with a tighter pacing. The Lost Legacy also comes with the complete multiplayer suit of A Thief’s End.

If you are a fan of the franchise, there is no reason not to play it. While Nathan Drake’s story is over, Naughty Dog has shown that they are more than capable of continuing the series with another character.
