Reports regarding Microsoft removing their Lumia series from Microsoft Stores surfaced recently. Rumours added to the fuel suggesting the company will stop selling Lumia altogether in December. This didn’t come across as a surprise as since early 2016, we haven’t seen any new revisions of the Lumia line-up. Windows Central also exclusively revealed a few months ago that Lumia 650 would be the last Lumia to be released by Microsoft.

However, it doesn’t look like the company is given up on hopes of building a new smartphone. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was recently quoted by the Australian Financial Review as saying that the company will continue to be a part of the phone market. ‘Not as defined by today’s market leaders, but by what it is that we can uniquely do in what is the most ultimate mobile device,’ he added.

The report further goes on to talk about Microsoft’s plans to offer something unique instead of competing with others in the market. With this aim in mind, the company isn’t afraid of taking risks and is ready to enter newer segments while also redefining the older ones.

Nadella even spoke about Microsoft Surface. He went on to explain how the company jumped into the 2-in-1 factor with the Microsoft Surface three years ago, pointing towards Microsoft’s intentions to offer something unique to its customers.

If reports are believed to be true, Microsoft plans on launching a Surface smartphone soon. The company will be targeting three different user groups including consumers, business users and enthusiasts.
