Samsung is slated to supply OLED panels for Apple’s anniversary iPhone which will be launched in September. There are also reports that the collaboration between the two could continue for the next generation models which are scheduled for 2018.

However in the meantime, Cupertino is looking to cut short its reliance on Samsung OLEDs and is therefore taking several steps to prepare a mass transition to OLED displays for the entire iPhone lineup next year, all without any, or at least with minimalist involvement from the South Korean firm.

Apple has acquired a chemical vapour deposition (CVD) machines from Sunic Systems. According to a report from DigiTimes, the company is planning to set up its own 2.5G OLED panel line in Taiwan. This will help the company develop displays and related technology in the country, which should help them partner with other manufacturers in the region for the production process.

The iPhone 8 is slated to go live in September, but because of these production struggles, Apple might be forced to commit to a one-month delay, meaning the device would only hit the shelves in October or even November.
