Google is pushing its Assistant hard on all of its platforms. Whether it’s Android or several Google apps on various other platforms, the Assistant is slowly and steadily becoming a crucial part of Google’s ecosystem. Google is now looking to extend Assistant’s reach to the Messages app soon if the leaks are to be believed.

According to a report from XDA Forums, Google is presently testing the integration of Assistant in the Messages app. However, unlike Assistant on other Google apps, it will be stripped of most of its functions and be given a specific duty — provide contextual information to the chats.

In short, Assistant will be doing what the latest update to Gmail does — suggest suitable replies with web links based on what the user is typing. For example, if someone asks you about nearby restaurants, the Assistant will throw up contextual links suggesting various options nearby. Do note that Assistant will provide an option to do so, which means it will only do its work when the user demands.

Previously, this feature was available on Google’s Allo messenger. Sadly, Allo wasn’t received well in the market. With Google bringing RCS to Messages shortly, integrating Assistant will surely help in elevating the user experience.
