When Apple unveiled the iPhone X, the media went berserk over its $1,000 price tag, making it one of the most expensive smartphone to be sold commercially. However, when Apple made the iPhone X available on it shelves earlier this month, people queued up outside Apple stores with the same enthusiasm that they did every year in the last decade. The prime reason for this dedication from Apple fans is Apple’s commitment to making the best phone in the market, bar none.

In an interview with Time magazine, two senior Apple executives discussed the reason behind $1,000 price tag of the iPhone X. Our goal is always to provide what we think is the best product possible, not always the lowest cost,” Dan Riccio, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, explained. Apple’s Chief Designer Jony Ive also reinstated that every iPhone is always expensive because “they are not just phones, but devices with more advanced functionality.”

To recall, the iPhone X boasts of some of the most advanced features on a smartphone, primarily the FaceID and the new gesture-based UI navigation system. These novel features were expected to raise the price of the iPhone X long before it became a reality. It is expected that Apple’s next year’s model lineup will also consist of similarly ‘high-priced’ smartphone lineup.

However, Apple keeps selling older iPhone models for much less than their actual launch price. Additionally, Apple launched their cheapest iPhone SE in 2016, which came with a 4-inch display and used the iPhone 6S’ internals. If you want an entry into the iPhone club, then you can get the base 32GB variant of the iPhone SE for as low as Rs 24,000 from online retailers such as Amazon and Flipkart.
