OnePlus has seen tremendous success with the OnePlus 6, selling it like hotcakes. The company followed it up with special edition variants of the device. However, while the OnePlus 6 is acclaimed for its speedy performance, fans and critics have been left disappointed with the lack of a common flagship feature — wireless charging. While it’s expected in the next model, OnePlus seems to be unsure about it.

In an interview on their forum, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau expressed that the company is presently researching on the wireless charging front to make it as fast as the company’s ‘Dash Charging’ fast charging technology. However, until the speeds of wireless charging match up with that of Dash Charging and help maintain a slimmer profile, OnePlus will be avoiding using the technology on their next flagship.

“We have tested and will continue to test wireless charging technology going forward, but for now, we have not yet found a solution that meets our expectations for speed and convenience. This technology also still results in a thickening of the device and a heating of the device in the charging process,” said Lau in a statement.

OnePlus is all ready for supporting wireless technologies and their efforts are evident with the success of their first wireless earphone — Bullets wireless. “This is the first Bluetooth earphones product we created, and the bullets have been overwhelmingly well received. We are very excited about this and appreciate all the feedback our community has contributed towards this new product,” said Lau.

On being asked about whether there was any product that they wanted to succeed, Lau pointed towards the OnePlus X. “We aimed to create a best in class flagship-lite product, and although the community loved the design and thought the product was beautiful, most still preferred flagship devices. This reaffirmed our positioning as a flagship only company and culture.”
