Google Home can now make hands-free calls

Google Home has been around for some time in the United States and it has become a great smart home appliance. Whether it be scheduling appointments or starting a car, Google Home can do it all. However, there was one thing that it couldn’t do — make calls. It seems that Google has even fixed that problem as well.

The latest update to hit the Google Home has added the ability to make calls through the smart speaker. One can call all the contacts stored in his/her Google accounts by using the following command-line — Ok Google, call my dad. The Home will also recognise an individual’s voice and access that particular account. So, if you want to call your dad through Google Home, you won’t end up calling your friend’s dad.

Presently, the recipient of your Google Home call won’t be able to see your phone number unless you are subscribed to Google’s Project Fi. But, Google says that this will be fixed with upcoming updates.

The Google Home could already call business prior to the update. With this new feature, Google’s Home speaker will be able to compete with Amazon Echo Show smart AI assistant capable of doing video calls.
