Drop tests are slowly becoming an important part of the smartphone buying guide and companies are trying to make smartphones stronger than before. A recent incident has proven the usefulness of this test where a smartphone fell from an aeroplane flying over 1000 feet and kept functioning normally after landing on someone’s lawn.

Mashable reports that Blake Henderson was recording one of his aeroplane flights on his Samsung Galaxy S5. Everything was going fine when sudden turbulence let Blake lose grip over his phone and see it tumble down towards the earth. The Galaxy S5 kept recording its ‘leap of faith’ and eventually it succeeded. Not only had the phone survived, it managed to keep itself switched on and kept recording.

The S5 landed on someone’s lawn and even recorded the house owner’s reaction to a sudden find. The person took it inside and returned it to the phone company, who eventually returned the device to Blake.

The major reason for the Galaxy S5 to sustain the fall was its lucky landing in the bushes that acted as a cushion for the smartphone. Had it landed on a solid concrete surface like motorways or pavements, the smartphone would have been shattered to pieces.

Is there anything to learn from this incident? Always choose bushy areas if you plan to drop your smartphone from an aeroplane next time.
