The confirmation on Rage 2 came after a leaked listing on Walmart. The game is making its way after a eight-year-long hiatus.

Following the release of Prey last year, Bethesda has announced a new game in yet another series we had believed to be dead. A sequel to 2011’s Rage is indeed real, and we are bound to see gameplay at Bethesda’s E3 press conference next month. Rage was a first person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world. The game was praised for its graphics and shooting mechanics, but was criticised for its story. While it wasn’t a massive hit, it was successful enough to warrant a sequel.

Rage 2 was unveiled in the most unconventional ways. It first leaked in a listing on Walmart, which also featured LEGO DC Villains, Just Cause 4, Splinter Cell, Borderlands 3 and Gears of War 5. While none of the other new games have been confirmed, Bethesda was quick to respond. The official twitter account of Rage as well as Bethesda, started jokingly referencing this leak. This entire incident resulted in a teaser for Rage 2 which barely showed us anything about the game. Though, it did manage to capture that Mad Max vibe, as it featured characters with outlandishly punk costumes taunting on screen. The colour pink was also a big part of the video, but we do not know how it will affect the art of the style of the game.

It seems like Walmart forced Bethesda to quickly prepare a teaser in order to increase hype for their E3 show. As of this writing, no platforms have been announced, but we can expect it to be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. Unlike Doom or Wolfenstein, I’m not sure if a switch version will be possible due to its open world nature. This is going to be a big deal for Bethesda to try and turn the fortunes of another relatively quite franchise that had generated a lot of buzz back in its day.

With better tech and newer hardware available, I’m hoping they’ve made some serious improvements and can give us an exciting game because eight years of waiting is a long time!
