Tech-savvy youth of India prefer spending their free time online on their phones rather than going outside. While the Urban youth does care about their fitness, the survey by YouGov states that Indian youth’s (16-26 years of age) online time exceeds time devoted to physical activity.

Founder and CEO for Doctor Insta, which is India’s first video-medicine telemedicine app, Amit Munjal gives us some insights.

HealthTech Startups are now trying to focus on this category of customers who are always on their screens, as potential acceptors of online health platforms like Telemedicine. An increase in the number of consultations from the age group of 18- 35 has been registered in the past 1 year. The millennial who are tech-savvy and tap onto Google for checking up symptoms of any and every problem, are the ones who are accepting online health platforms as their go-to medical assistance.

Following are the reasons which influence the acceptance of telemedicine by millennial.

One-stop solution- Telemedicine app has become one-stop solution for general doctor consultation. It connects the patient with the best in class doctors around them under each category of disease. The third party assurance helps in creating trust amongst the customer towards their doctor. After the inclusion of pharmacies on the same app, Telemedicine has further bridged the gap between online and physical consultations with additional features like Video-calling.

Avoids procrastination- More than 35 % diseases is an outcome of procrastinated healthcare. An app in your phone which can instantly connect you with a doctor for any concern acts like a problem solver for people who procrastinates their physical doctor appointments. Telemedicine apps also help in medical consultation follow-up as the same can be conducted in-time on the app itself, which insures it doesn’t get missed due to busy schedules, etc.

Economical, less time consuming and a click away- The healthtech makes it easier for the patient to connect with the doctor without the involvement of travelling the physical distance which is time and energy consuming. Because the app is a one-stop solution for everything from video/ voice calling to e-pharmacy, the consumers are always just a click away from doctor’s instant advice and the suitable medicine is home-delivered. These apps also help in keeping a regular check on you daily health and wellness which ensures early detection of disease, if any.

Stigma-free personal consultation- According to a report by Doctor Insta, 80% sexologist and gynecologist consultations happen from the age group of 20-40 years. The Indian youth is digitally active and feels more comfortable and secure in consulting a doctor for personal and mental health online than in person. These apps not only connect the millennial with trusted doctors but also help in overcoming the apprehensions of seeing a doctor personally.
