Google has patented a remote babysitting service that will help concerned parents by alerting them when their child is left alone in a room. The patent shows the detailed series of “devices and methods for protecting unattended children in the home” in a patent.

The patent also reveals how the system would work and use home security cameras, touch and motion sensors to determine if an infant has been left unattended for more than 10 minutes, and then send a text or email to the parents.

The system will also be able to shut down plug sockets if a child is around them. It will also activate digital door locks to prevent them from getting out of the room.

“Typically these hazards are avoided by not leaving children unattended in the first place. However, there may be situations where children are left unattended within the home due to circumstances beyond a parent or guardian’s control,” the patent reads. “In these situations, the parent or guardian may not have had the opportunity to make safe those potentially hazardous elements, thus putting the unattended children at risk.”

The whole system can be controlled through a smartphone using internet connected cameras, motion sensors, doorbells as well as electrical sockets. The idea seems promising, but it is unclear whether the company plans to make this a reality and available for general population.
