Android's new update might add some space-saving feature

We all know how iPhone users complaint about the low storage on their device, well Apple is yet to do something about it. But if you’re on an Android device and still running out of disk space, then the latest Android 8 Oreo might have some good news for you.

According to XDA-Developers, a recent update to the Android 8.1 Oreo AOSP framework includes a feature that will free up some space on the smartphone automatically.

When the device is running low on space, the OS will determine the inactive apps on the phone and free up space by reducing their cache sizes. The system will not delete the inactive app or its associated data. Reducing the cache size will only slow down the app launch when you open the app next time.   

It’s good to see Android giving importance to such feature, but till the Android manufacturers take the trouble to update their device in time, it’ll be long that the mainstream devices get this feature.

Android 8.0 Oreo which was launched in August has a user base of only 0.2 per cent. Android 6 Marshmallow still powers the majority of Android smartphones with 32 per cent.
