The US is a country that prefers to move ahead of the world in terms of technology. The Google Home, which is a smart AI-powered speaker, has been widely adopted by families for controlling their smart home appliances. With a strong internet infrastructure, people find it as a necessity instead of a novelty item. Everything gets a tad easier when all you have to say is – Ok Google, turn on the lights. However, what happens to those smart homes if the Assistant develops a snag? Chaos!

From May 31, the Google Home outage began on the basis of complaints posted on Google Home Help Forum. Whenever the Assistant was summoned with the “Ok Google” or “Hey Google” phrases, “Hmm, something went wrong. Try again in a few seconds,” or “There was a glitch. Try again in a few seconds.” However, the matter was only said to be there on the Home speaker and has been said to be fixed by Google.

Google took to the forum, saying that “We hope to have fixed this issue for everyone. If you are still having issues please try rebooting your Google Home by unplugging it from the wall outlet, wait a minute then plugging it back in. Please do let us know if you are still experiencing any error messages after the saying “Ok Google” or “Hey Google”.” But, Google didn’t specify the reason behind the glitch that led to the outage.

While the problem didn’t cause widescale mayhem, there were a lot who took to social media and expressed their issues regarding the glitch. With more people adopting these speakers as the primary control centres for these smart homes, Google will have to ensure that such outages should be a rarity.
