Lately Microsoft has made some controversial decisions for its phones lately, and one of the most recent ones took place in April when the Redmond giant shipped the Creators Update but pledged to support only 11 devices.

Despite numerous other Windows phones being able to run the Creators Update just fine, and with Microsoft leaving so many models behind, most users turned to a hack involving editing Device Target Info on unsupported phones to continue getting builds.

And earlier today, it all seemed like the hack was no longer needed as Microsoft quietly increased the number of devices supported by the Windows Insider program and getting updates officially. It all happened after Twitter user @gus33000 discovered this Windows Insider page where Microsoft lists the Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview supported phones.

As seen in the screenshot here, several older Windows phones were added to the list, including the majority of Lumia devices (such as the Lumia 930 and the Lumia 1520), but also 4 different BLU models and the Alcatel OneTouch Fierce XL.

But unfortunately, Microsoft officials state that the website was actually outdated and someone had forgot to remove the unsupported phones from the list, which means that users still receive new builds on just 11 Windows phones. The company has since updated the website to display the correct information.

Microsoft is believed to have been working on a complete mobile overhaul which is slated to include major software updates and a new device. But details are yet to be confirmed as the project is said to be under development behind closed doors.
