Sennheiser HD 4.30 G review: Quite a earful

The Bluetooth-device market has created a genre of in-your-face gaudy audio products German audio leader Sennheiser forsakes such frivolity to offer a starkly minimalistic design with its wired headphones suitable for plugging into Android and iOS devices.

The HD 4.30 G (4.3oi for Apple) is a chunky but extremely comfortable over-the-ear pair of headphones, with a removable cable containing an inline microphone and volume controls. You can take telephone calls on the headset, though I can't quite fathom the utility when the headphones are not wireless. A 32mm driver delivers deep low frequencies, and while there is no noise cancelling as such the large and soft cups ensure you pretty much cut off the outside world. (Rs 7,990)

The HD 2.3 (2.3i for Apple) is much smaller — and classified as an on-ear headset-- the cups are about the same size as adult ears. All other features like the cable and inline remote controls are the same as the 4.3, but I thought this one boosted the mid frequencies rather than the base. At 260 grams the HD 2.3 is lighter than it looks at costs Rs 1,000 less than the bigger cousin.

Recommended if you are looking for solid no-nonsense audio engineering.
