St. Elias, Children Academy emerge champions

St.Elias High School, Khar and Children’s Academy School, Malad bagged the girls’ and boys’ titles, respectively, in the Late Major Dhyan Chand Inter-Schools Hockey Tournament organised by MHAL as part of the National Sports Day and played at the Mahindra Stadium on Wednesday.

The Khar schoolgirls’ dominated play from the start and defeated St. Theresa’s HS 4-0. Leading St. Elias charge was Madhavi Mhatre who scored a brace of goals in the fifth and 29th minutes, while Harshada Dhaniwale (7th minute) and Aradhana Jadhav (24th minute) added one each to round off the winning margin.

In the boys final, Children Academy overcame Guru Nanak High School by a narrow 1-0 margin. Vansh Shah scored the lone goal in the 18th minute.

Both St.Elias and Children Academy were presented with a glittering trophy and cash award of Rs 11,000 each, while the runners-up St. Theresa and Guru Nanak High School received a trophy and cash award of Rs 7,500 each.
