Thane head constable bags gold at powerlifting c’ships

Thane City head constable, Gopal Warkhade bettered his 2015 performance when he clinched a gold at the National Bench Press Powerlifting Championships earlier this week in Jamshedpur. The policeman’s 80 kg benchpress in the 66 kgs weight category allowed him to take the finish first.

“Head Constable Gopal Warkhade won a gold medal at the National Bench Press Powerlifting Championships. Thane City Police is proud of Constable Warkhade’s constant endeavor to make the team proud  over and over again!” tweeted the Thane City Police handle on Wednesday. Earlier, he was a havildar attached to Thane city police commissioner’s office, when he claimed the bronze medal in the master’s category of 50-60 age group at the state power lifting championship at Sangli in 2015 while competing in 67 kg weight class. He lifted an overall 280kg bar in all three mandatory disciplines, bench press, dead lift and squat.
