Double for Mastan YMCA, Nagpada boys

Mastan YMCA won the men’s and junior boys titles, while Nagpada Basketball Association (NBA) emerged mini and youth boys champions and Bandra YMCA won the women’s crown, in the NBA basketball tournament, at the Bachoo Khan Municipal playground, Nagpada.

Bandra YMCA registered a gripping 46-45 win over Indian Gymkhana in the women’s final. In the final quarter, top scorer Sakshi Arora sank in one of two free throws 24 seconds from the hooter to force overtime at 37-37. Thanks to Priyanka Vengurlekar and Sakshi, Bandra YMCA surged to a 45-39 lead when Kimberly Fernandes gave Indian Gymkhana hope with a delightful three-pointer (42-45) a minute from the end. Darielle Nazareth added a crucial point with a free throw for Bandra YMCA (46-42) before Amruta Bhuskute fired yet another three-pointer to rekindle Indian Gymkhana’s hopes (45-46) 26 seconds from the hooter, but time ran out.

In another gripping contest, Mastan YMCA beat arch-rivals NBA 79-77 in the junior boys’ final after leading 38-33 at half-time and 60-51 in the third quarter, before enduring a stunning recovery by NBA in the final quarter.
