Tiger kills fisherman

Kolkata: A tiger killed a man in Patharpratima, in Sunderbans on Saturday. A tiger pounced on Buna Bhakta (21), a fisherman who was catching fish in Matla river near Chunikathi forest. The tiger apparently strayed to the riverbank in search of either a prey or water. A badly mauled Buna was taken to Patherpratima Primary Health Centre, where he was declared brought dead.

2 bodies found

Kolkata: Bodies of two infant girls were found abandoned at Maheshpur and Shibpur area respectively on Saturday. A three-month-old baby girl was found under the Hooghly bridge, while another newborn girl was found by the roadside in Maheshpur in South 24 Parganas. The local people near Shibpur claimed that the child, when first spotted, was alive and later died when the police came late to rescue it. But, the Shibpur police station officials claimed that the child was dead.

Father-kin arrested

Kolkata: A father-daughter duo, identified as Dilip Das and Soma Roy, were arrested by East Jadavpur police station officials for their alleged involvement in several cheating cases amounting to over Rs 50 lakhs. Sources revealed that the two used to dupe people claiming that they can help them get passports or can facilitate education abroad, against the payment of hefty amounts. On Saturday, local residents of Mukundapur held the two and handed them over to the police.

Free health check-up

Kolkata: Over 150 poor people received free health check-up at a camp at the TRA General Hospital on Biresh Guha Street near Park Circus, organised by the Maulana Shaukat Ali Foundation.
