By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Kolkata, Dec. 29: Tension gripped the Chetla area, when a godown of a decorators company caught fire on Saturday morning. However, there have been no reports of injuries. Meanwhile, owing to the fire, the first phase of the PSC exam that was being held at the nearby Chetla Girls’ School was cancelled.

At 11.15 am, the godown at 16-A, Pyari Mohon Roy Road, used by New Dipak Decorators, caught fire. The fire spread across three adjoining huts. Five fire-tenders were pressed into action. Though, the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, prima facie, it was from a stove. Local councillor, Farhaad Hakeem, who rushed to the spot, alleged that the particular godown was illegal and did not obey the building norms laid by the KMC. Meanwhile, the second phase of the PSC exam was held as normal.
