Catch the hoarders

Sep 26 : Sir, It is time we find out who is responsible for the extraordinary rise in prices. Given that its suddenness has coincided with the festive season, it can’t but be planned. Prices of commodities like sugar, dals and potatoes, required for the Navratri, Dussehra and Diwali, have been hiked up deliberately by hoarders. It is certain that politicians and police are hand-in-glove with these elements. The government must immediately book the price manipulators.

gaddafi remark uncalled for

Sir, This is with reference to the remarks of maverick Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi on Kashmir. Kashmir is an Indian state and there is no question of independence for it. It cannot be excluded from the Indian soil. Mr Gaddafi has forgotten that his nasty ideas shall not be taken into account by the United Nations Security Council. The issue of making Kashmir a Baathist state is a very strong remark on India and its government as "Baath" means "renaissance" or "resurrection".

incorrigible pakistan

Sir, The arrest of a former Indian Army sepoy for allegedly working for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence is alarming. Earlier, too, Pakistan had tried to hurt India by introducing fake currency notes through Nepal. It is silent about its probe into the Mumbai terror attack that was planned from its soil. Why is the Indian government taking this lightly? I agree with the views expressed by Ramani Avantsa in the letter 26/11: Drag Pak to world court (September 22). Pakistan will keep dilly-dallying, it is not serious about helping India.

don’t ignore

IIT faculty

Sir, It is unfortunate that our human resources development minister Kapil Sibal has refused to have a dialogue with the aggrieved IIT faculty. While MPs/MLAs grant themselves hikes in salary and perks every year, why can’t the government redress the grievances of the faculty members of IITs? The United Progressive Alliance government should take a leaf out of the book of its Tamil Nadu ally, Dravida Munnettra Kazhagam, which is magnanimous and quick in redressing employees’ grievances.

Copyright for laddoos

Sir, With reference to the news report Tirupati laddoo gets geographical copyright (September 16) I have written a few lines:

May be of mouthwatering taste

The laddoo can be fake

Sinful will be mistake

Beware at temple’s gate!

Ensure size and weight

Ask for aroma certificate

Before you eat, for God’s sake

Compare with a devotee-mate!

As duplicity is a reality stark

Show it to Devasthanam’s clerk

Whether the tag of

registered mark

Is printed in real ink dark!

Only holy prasad you bite

Observing the ceremonious rites

Black is black; white is white

Lord Venkateshwara has copyright!
