Though P.V. Sindhu keeps stressing on the fact that her life has changed post her historic triumph at Rio, one cannot help but get pleasantly surprised at how she manages to keep herself grounded and composed amidst the unbelievable attention and accolades she has been receiving.

“When I arrived in India from Rio, I was stunned by the reception I got. I have never seen such a crowd in my life. Even small children were holding banners to welcome me. It was surreal,” describes the 21-year-old, relieving the memorable moment. Today, she is happy that badminton is receiving a wider fan base because of her success. She says, “Many people told me that they have started watching badminton more than cricket. It feels really good.”

It was not only the on field exploits that made her Rio visit memorable, but she also got a chance to meet her sporting icons — Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. “Apart from badminton, I like watching tennis. Though I was not able to get a chance to interact with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic due to our busy schedules, I made sure that I got a picture with them!” she laughs.

Sindhu’s silver medal at the Olympics now means dressing up for the numerous photo ops — given the number of award ceremonies she has been attending. However, she is not complaining. Sindhu reveals, after all it is the only chance she gets to dress up. She says, “I am extremely grateful to people from all over India who took the initiative to honour and recognise me. Award ceremonies are good because I get to dress up. I love shopping and dressing, but I never get time for all that. These events are the occasions during which I can dedicate time for all that!”

With biopics being the trend in Indian cinema currently, the Olympic silver medalist admits that it would be nice if a movie was made on her. She says, “To be frank, I have not thought about it yet. I don’t have any actress in mind to play my role. But it would be a good feeling.”
