Suffering a life threatening accident can have a psychological as well as physical impact that may prove to be life altering. But some people refuse to give up and set out to perform incredible feats against all odds.

Snowboarder Mark McMorris from Canada spent days in a medically induced coma with 17 broken bones, a collapsed lung and a ruptured spleen after an accident 11 months back. But that didn’t stop him from astonishing everyone as he stood on the podium in South Korea with a bronze medal.

The unbelievable comeback story started following a violent incident which almost killed the Saskatchewan native. He suffered a broken jaw, collapsed left lung, fractured left arm and several injuries after crashing into a tree while snowboarding with friends in British Columbia.

Despite the shocking turn of events, Mark spent the following months recovering and working on his health. Months later he pulled off a miracle to win a Big Air World Cup event in Beijing before winning the second medal of his life at the Winter X Games in South Korea.

Even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was inspired by his extraordinary achievement along with the entire nation. Although he didn’t finish first, being on the podium was much more than what Mark had thought of 11 months back.
