The Kalyan Taluka police has arrested five people, including a minor, for assaulting and murdering people.

The Kalyan Taluka police has arrested five people, including a minor, for assaulting and murdering people. The accused allegedly had a fight with the deceased for refusing money for alcohol, after which they got into a fight, which lead to the murder.

The incident came to light after some residents found two bodies in a semi-naked state on a ground near Radhakrishna Nagar at Maharal, Kalyan. A preliminary probe revealed that the bodies belonged to cousins Madan Sunar (30) and Raju Sunar (25).

Sources revealed that the deceased had been attacked repeatedly and one of them had his genitals chopped off. Both the victims are Nepali nationals and while Madan worked as an electrician, Raju was employed as a watchman in the area.

Once the bodies were identified, the police started tracing the last known whereabouts of the deceased. “Our investigation revealed that on the night of the incident, the victims had been returning home from work when they were met with the accused. The accused are repeat offenders and alcoholics who take advantage of desolate areas and attack passers-by and demand money from them or loot them,” said an officer from Kalyan taluka police station. One of the accused has been identified as Anil Pateniya (19), a resident of the area. The youngest accused is aged 14. The minor has been sent to an observation home and further investigation is on.
