Harbour line saw a delay of around 10 minutes on June 28 when the dish antenna of a television came hurtling down onto to the track between platform no. 1 and 2 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminal. A man identified as Namdeo Mhatre suffered minor injuries and was administered first aid by the CST station staff.

The freak accident did not cause severe injuries or hit the 25,000 volts of overhead wires lying beneath the building. Passengers reported the incident at 5.57 pm to the CST station master who then administered the first aid to Mr Mhatre. Commuters present at the time of the incident said that Mr Mhatre and others had a close shave. “The dish came down suddenly; we heard a loud crash when it hit the cover over the platform, chipping some parts of it, which then hit the man,” said Ankit Pal one of the bystanders.

Many other commuters said it was the cover over the platform that saved them. “The railways has recently constructed the cover over platform no. 2, where the old platform has been extended to accommodate the 12-coach trains. However, there is a gap in the cover where the new one has been built, and if the dish had fallen in that area it would have knocked a few people on to the track,” said another bystander, who refused to give his name.

Although the railway officials have remained mum about the incident, chief public relations officer Narendra Patil said that an inquiry is being conducted into the incident.
